The Department of Commerce announces new rules for Work from Home for SEZs

The Department of Commerce has notified the addition of a new rule viz., Rule 43A to the Work from Home in Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006, on 19 July 2022. The new rule has been appended in response to demands from the industry for a standardized country-wide provision for Work from Home (WFH) across all SEZs.

Since its inauguration, the Emblem installed atop the Central Vista has equally caught vary sideways glances as well as uproars of appreciation. While many onlookers find the new roaring lions version of the emblem endearing and symbolic of India’s progressive march towards economic and social development, many others find it distasteful, impudent and insulting to the founding beliefs of the country. Two lawyers of the latter belief have moved to the Supreme Court claiming that the statue in question, is illegal and a gross insult to the National Symbol.

Anti-Ragging Laws in India

Ragging or bullying is seen as a crime and is a punishable offence under various institutional and state laws India. Section 26(1)(g) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, provides the University Grants Commission (UGC) the authority to establish regulations for the maintenance of standards and the co-ordination of work or facilities in Universities. Firm directives have been provided by the UGC to Indian Institutes to establish strict anti-ragging policies.
