Pune Court withdraws notice requesting female lawyers not to wear their hair up in court after criticism

Pune Court withdraws notice requesting female lawyers not to wear their hair up in court after criticism

The Pune District Court has canceled a notice it had previously issued asking female lawyers not to have their hair fixed in public. According to the notice published on October 20, women lawyers arranging their hair in public court was “disturbing the Court’s functioning.”

Immediately after Senior Advocate Indira Jaising tweeted about the notification, there was a significant internet outrage.

“Wow, take a look! Who is diverted by women’s lawyers, and why? “Jaising tweeted the announcement. The notice was criticized by many users for being chauvinistic and degrading to women. Instead of posting such an embarrassing warning in a public place, one participant suggested that the registrar and court administration in Pune District Court should create more common rooms for female lawyers.

Another person said, “Perhaps the advocates who become so easily distracted shouldn’t be in the court in the first place.” Later today, Jaising tweeted that the notification had been withdrawn.
