Delhi Court Dismisses BJP MP’s Plea for Further Investigation in Sexual Harassment Case

Delhi Court Dismisses BJP MP’s Plea for Further Investigation in Sexual Harassment Case

Introduction:

In a recent development, a Delhi Court rejected an application filed by BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Singh, seeking further investigation in a sexual harassment case lodged against him by women wrestlers. The court’s decision comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings in the case, where charges are yet to be framed against Singh and his co-accused.

Arguments:

Brij Bhushan Singh’s application sought permission for additional submissions on the framing of charges, particularly regarding his alleged presence at the WFI office on the date of the incident. Singh claimed that he was not in India on the alleged date and requested the Delhi Police to investigate accordingly. However, the prosecution opposed the application, arguing that it amounted to seeking further investigation, which could delay the legal process. The complainants’ counsel also criticized the application as a delaying tactic.

Court’s Judgment:

The Delhi Court, presided over by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Priyanka Rajpoot, dismissed Singh’s application for further investigation. The court emphasized the need to proceed with the framing of charges without undue delay. It scheduled the pronouncement of the order on framing of charges for May 07, highlighting the importance of expeditious legal proceedings in the case.
