“It is difficult for a woman to live alone after breaking off a Live-In Relationship. The Indian Society at large does not recognize such relationships as acceptable. The woman, therefore, is left with no option but to lodge an FIR against her live-in partner”, the Allahabad HC observed while granting bail to the accused in the case of Aditya Raj Verma vs. State Of U.P. And Anr.
In the instant matter, the victim was a married woman and she was living with the accused for the past 1 & 1/2 years and she became pregnant on account of her live-in relationship with him, however, he refused to marry her. She also alleged that the accused had also sent obscene photographs to her husband and therefore, he refused to keep her with him. The accused contended that the victim is major and she willingly entered into a live-in relationship understanding the consequence of such a relationship.
On the other hand, the court after hearing the contentions observed that this matter is an example of the disastrous consequences of these kinds of relationships. Keeping in mind the nature of the offence and all the findings the court granted bail to the accused.
