Supreme Court Refuses to Entertain Petition Against Chandigarh’s EV Policy

Supreme Court Refuses to Entertain Petition Against Chandigarh’s EV Policy

“In order to have clean air in cities, you have to go electric.” – Elon Musk

The Supreme Court in the case of Federation of Automobile Dealers Association vs Chandigarh Administration refused to entertain a petition filed by the Federation of Automobile ADalers Association against the Chandigarh administration’s electric vehicle (EV) policy 2022 and noted that the matter is already pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court and therefore, asked the petitioner to approach the High Court.

In an endeavour to promote eco-friendly transport, the policy under challenge was passed by the administration which stated that non-electric two-wheelers would not be registered between February 10 and March 31 by the Registering and Licensing Authority.

The policy will be in effect for five years starting from its notification in September last year and exports will be made to reduce and eventually stop registering fuel-run vehicles. The petitioners sought a stay on the policy.
