Introduction:
The Supreme Court recently expressed concerns regarding its day-to-day functioning, citing various issues related to paper books, convenience compilations, and other procedural problems. Justices J.K Maheshwari and Sanjay Karol instructed the Registry to establish a standard operating procedure to address these challenges and ensure efficient court proceedings.
Challenges Highlighted by the Court:
The Court outlined several issues affecting its functioning, including the absence of attached orders in paper books, incomplete documentation in service matters, improper exhibition of interlocutory application numbers, and failure to send convenience compilations to judges. These challenges have led to delays, inconvenience, and extra financial burden on the parties involved.
Court’s Instructions:
In response to the highlighted challenges, the Court instructed the Secretary-General and Registry Officers to establish a standard operating procedure to maintain SLP paper books effectively. The Registry was tasked with eradicating these issues and ensuring due compliance. The Court emphasized the importance of expeditiously addressing these issues for the efficient functioning of the court.
