Parakram Diwas is the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose which is celebrated on 23rd January every year.
Recently a PIL was moved in apex court to declare Parakram diwas as a national holiday like Gandhi Jyanti.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachaud and Justice JB Pardiwalla held that such plea are just a mockery of PIL jurisdiction and that the Government of India has jurisdiction over the subject and not the Supreme court.
The Court suggested that people should celebrate the day by working hard in a manner similar to how Bose fought for freedom rather than looking for a holiday.
Court stated… “You can celebrate it by working hard just like how he worked hard for independence…You are making a mockery of the PIL jurisdiction. You like blue skies and then you will come in PIL saying you want blue skies? At least think what the court can do….The 3 minutes that we spent on your petition could have got relief for another litigant you see. Sorry dismissed,”
