Hit-and-Run Case in Mumbai: Court Remands Mihir Shah, Son of Rajesh Shah to Police Custody

Hit-and-Run Case in Mumbai: Court Remands Mihir Shah, Son of Rajesh Shah to Police Custody

Introduction:

In a tragic incident on July 7th in Worli, a 45-year-old woman lost her life in a hit-and-run accident involving a prominent individual. The prime accused, initially evading arrest for 72 hours, was identified as Mihir Shah, son of a close aide to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. Following his arrest in Virar, a suburb of Mumbai, the case quickly escalated into a courtroom battle with compelling arguments from both sides.

Arguments Presented:

The prosecution argued fervently for maximum custody, citing Mihir Shah’s attempts to evade capture and alter his appearance to mislead investigators. They emphasized the need to confront him with witness statements and clarify crucial details, including the disposal of the vehicle’s broken number plate. The police underscored CCTV footage showing Mihir’s actions before and after the incident, which they claimed implicated him directly in the crime.

In contrast, Mihir’s defense counsel contested the need for custodial interrogation, asserting that his initial statements aligned with those of witnesses. They argued that sufficient evidence, particularly the CCTV footage, was already in police possession. The defense aimed to rebut the prosecution’s claims, questioning the necessity of further custody given the circumstances of the case.

Court’s Judgement:

After weighing the arguments, the Sewree Court granted the police six days of custody until July 16th. The decision was based on the unresolved aspects of the case, requiring clarification directly from Mihir Shah himself. This ruling marked a critical development in the legal proceedings, setting the stage for further investigation into the incident.
