The Delhi Police in the matter of XYZ & Ors v/s State of NCT of Delhi & Ors told the supreme court today that they have decided to register an FIR against the president of the wrestling federation of India over allegations of sexual harassment by the women wrestlers.
However, the solicitor general said that nothing survives in the petition in view of the decision of the Delhi Police, the Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal for petitioners pressed for directions seeking the safety of the women.
Background–
Advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for the petitioners had stated that the woman wrestlers were sitting in the dharna and seven women complained one is a minor and no FIR was registered and this violated the law of this court
It was alleged by the petitioner that there has been an unreasonable delay in registering the FIR especially when the wrestling bodies president have POCSO charges levelled against them.
The allegations date back to 2012 and the petitioners have been protesting against the action of taking no action at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
The Chief Justice of India had directed that the complaints that were given in sealed cover be resealed and placed under the petition
The matter was posted to be heard today.
