Delhi High Court’s Stern Rebuke: Arvind Kejriwal’s Government Under Fire for Stalled Projects and Education Neglect

Delhi High Court’s Stern Rebuke: Arvind Kejriwal’s Government Under Fire for Stalled Projects and Education Neglect

Introduction:

The Delhi High Court recently delivered a scathing rebuke to the Delhi Government over stalled projects and the failure to provide basic amenities to children in MCD schools. In response to a PIL filed by NGO Social Jurist, the court expressed dismay at the government’s prioritization of power over the welfare of its citizens, particularly the educational needs of schoolchildren. The bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, highlighted the government’s reluctance to delegate authority in the absence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in judicial custody.

Arguments:

The NGO Social Jurist argued that students in MCD schools were being deprived of essential benefits like uniforms, textbooks, and writing materials. They sought a direction for the MCD to ensure that all students have operational bank accounts and receive benefits until these accounts are opened. The court criticized the Delhi Government for its failure to form the standing committee, resulting in stalled projects and neglect of children’s education.

Court’s Judgment:

The Delhi High Court firmly asserted the importance of prioritizing children’s rights and education over political power struggles. It emphasized the urgency of addressing the immediate needs of students, including providing uniforms and textbooks. The court announced its intention to pass a detailed order, recording the instructions given by Delhi Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj. It reiterated that children’s education should not be compromised due to administrative negligence.
