Supreme Court Live Transcription
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud stated on Tuesday that the Supreme Court is striving to make transcripts of court proceedings available in regional languages during the same sex marriage case’s eighth day of hearing. The CJI further noted that live streaming of court sessions has brought court proceedings into peoples’ homes and hearts in a nation.
In response to Senior Advocate Rakesh Dwivedi’s query, the CJI stated that because court hearings are conducted in English, speakers of vernacular languages may not be able to follow along. The CJI acknowledged this worry and provided reassurance that the Supreme Court is attempting to make transcripts quickly available in regional languages. The supreme court issued an order mandating the rapid availability of the transcript in regional languages.
SC adopting AI Technology
For the live transcription of its proceedings in Constitution Bench matters, the Supreme Court started deploying artificial intelligence and technology powered by natural language processing on February 21 of this year.A screen facing the solicitors in the CJI’s courtroom is showing a live transcript of the proceedings. Additionally, the transcripts are posted on the Court’s website. The transcription service is being provided by TERES, a business that has been giving arbitrators this option.
