Allahabad High Court Orders Extensive Search for Missing 13-Year-Old Boy

Allahabad High Court Orders Extensive Search for Missing 13-Year-Old Boy

Introduction:

The Allahabad High Court has recently directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chandni Bagh Police Station in Panipat, Haryana, to intensify efforts to locate a missing 13-year-old boy, Beeru, who is originally from Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh. This directive came from Justice Mohd. Faiz Alam Khan, who also demanded a comprehensive report detailing the steps taken to find the child, inclusive of documentary evidence. This order followed a habeas corpus petition filed by Veena Devi, the mother of the missing child, after her own attempts to find her son proved futile. A copy of this order has been forwarded to the State Director General of Police (DGP) for immediate compliance.

Arguments:

Veena Devi, the mother of Beeru, filed a habeas corpus petition following unsuccessful attempts to locate her son. She explained that her son had traveled to Panipat, Haryana, with his cousins and had been working there for several months. Last month, Beeru’s parents received alarming news that he had gone missing. Despite various efforts to find him, including seeking assistance from local police authorities, no tangible results emerged. The local police’s inaction compelled Veena Devi to seek judicial intervention, hoping that the court’s directive would expedite the search for her son.

During the hearing, it was revealed that a missing person report had been lodged at Chandni Bagh Police Station in Panipat. This report, filed based on information from Amarjeet, a resident of Bahraich, indicated ongoing efforts to locate Beeru. The respondent authorities acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and outlined the steps they were taking to trace the missing boy. However, the details of these efforts were not fully disclosed during the proceedings, prompting the court to demand a detailed and documented report.

Court’s Judgement:

In response to the habeas corpus petition, Justice Mohd. Faiz Alam Khan issued a decisive order mandating the SHO of Chandni Bagh Police Station to exert all possible efforts to find Beeru. The court emphasized the importance of a thorough and documented search process. It instructed the police to submit a detailed report, including all documentary evidence of the actions taken to trace the missing child. The court scheduled the next hearing for June 14, by which time it expects a comprehensive update on the progress of the search efforts.

The court’s directive highlights the urgency and importance of locating the missing boy and ensuring that all avenues are explored to bring him back safely. The involvement of the State DGP in this matter underscores the significance of the case and the need for prompt and effective action by the authorities.
