Allahabad High Court Grants Bail to Mother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law in TCS Manager Manav Sharma’s Suicide Case

Introduction:

In the tragic case of 25-year-old TCS Manager Manav Sharma’s suicide, the Allahabad High Court has granted bail to his mother-in-law, Poonam Sharma, and sister-in-law, acknowledging the lack of specific evidence against them. Justice Sameer Jain observed that the allegations were general and that both women had no prior criminal history, having been in custody since March 15, 2025.

Manav Sharma, based in Agra, died by suicide on February 24, 2025, leaving behind a video accusing his wife, Nikita Sharma, and her family of harassment. The FIR, filed under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), led to the arrest of his wife and in-laws.

Judgement:

The court’s decision to grant bail was influenced by the absence of concrete evidence linking the mother-in-law and sister-in-law to the alleged abetment. The case has sparked discussions on men’s mental health and the complexities of marital disputes.
