Supreme Court Motion
The Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the highly sensitive and unexpected instance of a video demonstrating two women paraded naked and subjected to sexual assault while the ethnic conflict in Manipur is still raging and ordered both the central and State government to inform the steps taken against the perpetrators in the instant matter.
The Central and State governments were instructed to provide information on the actions taken against the culprits in the current case by the Supreme Court bench, which was chaired by Dr D.Y. Chandrachud. The Manipur women being paraded naked and being used as tools for violence in a charged environment was completely unacceptable, according to the Court, reflecting grave constitutional violations and violations of human rights. If the government does not take action against the offenders, the Court will, the Court agitatedly remarked. The recordings that surfaced yesterday concerning the two ladies who were paraded in Manipur upset us considerably, the court declared. The Court set the following hearing in a group of cases involving ethnic strife in Manipur for the following Friday.
