Supreme Court: In Motor Accident Compensation Claim Cases, Just Compensation Exceeding Claimed Amount Can Be Awarded

In motor accident compensation claim proceedings, the Supreme Court stated that 'just compensation' in excess of the claimed sum can be paid. According to the bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and JK Maheshwari, the Tribunal/Court should award 'just' compensation that is reasonable in the circumstances based on the evidence presented on record.

The Supreme Court dismisses WhatsApp-Meta pleas against the CCI’s investigation into its Privacy policies

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed pleas made by Whatsapp and its parent firm Meta (Facebook) seeking a stay of the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) probe into their privacy policies. A panel comprised of Justices MR Shah and Sudhanshu Dhulia dismissed WhatsApp and Meta's pleas appealing the ruling of the Delhi High Court division bench that declined to halt the CCI probe.

Plea to conduct a Scientific investigation of Shiva Linga rejected by Varanasi HC

The Varanasi Court has rejected a petition filed by Hindu devotees requesting a scientific examination into the 'Shiva Linga', which was allegedly discovered inside the Gyanvapi Mosque premises. The Court denied the petition in light of the Supreme Court's order to protect the location where a "Shiva Linga" was allegedly discovered during the survey of the Gyanvapi mosque.

The Bombay High Court slams the BMC for its insensitivity and orders the developer to vacate land reserved for the Nair Hospital Extension

Rubberwala Developers Private Limited was recently ordered by the Bombay High Court to evacuate the property reserved by the BMC for the extension of Nair Hospital in Byculla, Mumbai. The court also chided BMC for not acting quickly enough to reclaim the premises from the developer.

A man was sentenced to three years in prison by a Mumbai Special Court for pulling the dupatta and gripping the hand of a juvenile girl with sexual intent. The court stated that sexual offences against children are on the rise and have a negative influence on the victim, her family, and society, leading them to assume that the house and surrounding area are unsafe for children.

SC: Split Judgement delivered in Hijab Case

The Supreme Court delivered a split decision today on a batch of appeals challenging restrictions on Muslim women students wearing Hijab in Karnataka educational institutions. Given the differences of opinion, the case has to be brought before the Chief Justice of India for suitable directions.

The Ayodhya Verdict does not address the constitutionality of the Places of Worship Act: Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General, to the Supreme Court
