The government fired Services Secretary Ashish More the day after the Supreme Court’s ruling in the dispute between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor granted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) control over the transfer and posting of personnel in the National Capital Territory (NCT).In a key decision, the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench ruled on Thursday that the Delhi government will be in charge of all services provided in the capital, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), except for those related to land, law enforcement, and public order. After the supreme court passed a judgement the Delhi government passed an order to dismiss the Secretary of the Delhi government’s Services Department, the Supreme Court consented to form a bench to hear an appeal.
Courts Order
Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, speaking on behalf of the Delhi government, informed a Bench presided over by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud that there could be contempt under Article 141 (law declared by the Supreme Court to be binding on all courts) of the Indian Constitution if the removal of the Secretary was found to violate the Court’s prior orders. In response, the CJI stated that he would set up a bench to hear the matter the following week.
