New e-filing software is introduced by the Supreme Court

New e-filing software is introduced by the Supreme Court

Supreme Court e filing

A new version of the Supreme Court of India’s electronic filing system has been formally released. A test version of the same has already been made available for community testing. From July 22 of this year, the current, outdated e-filing software will no longer be supported.

The new software will allow plaintiffs and advocates to file cases petitions, unrelated documents, and caveats, pay court fees, oversee notification of flaws, and access, and share digitised paper books all online, according to a public notice released by the top court. There won’t be any printing fees assessed. It was stated that the new e-Filing software would allow the Advocates-on-Record Party-in-Person to submit case applications, other documents, and caveats, pay court fees, notify of defects, access the digitised paper-books, and share the digitised paper-books with Senior Advocates, Advocates, and email and short message services (SMS) notifications through online mode. It has been a pleasure for the Competent Authority to order that no printing fees be assessed.

Supreme court bench

A push for electronic filing in courts and tribunals throughout the nation has been made in recent years by the top court’s e-committee, which is chaired by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. It had instructed the High Courts to make sure that all matters filed by the government be done so electronically in October 2021. The CJI stressed the value of digitising court records in September 2022 to support efforts to be made through e-filing. He had made this statement about the requirement for court personnel to digitise hard copies provided by solicitors, increasing their carbon footprint.

Debt Recovery Tribunals and Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunals were ordered to establish thorough E-Sewa Kendras to assist in e-filing by a CJI-led bench in March of this year.
